An introduction to Ska/Reggae
Reggae is a music genre which started in Jamaica in the 1960s, developed from Ska and R&B. Reggae is based on a rhythmic style characterized by accents on the off-beat, known as the Skank. Reggae usually accents the second and fourth beat in each bar, with the rhythm guitar also either emphasizing the third beat or holding the chord on the second beat until the fourth is played. It is mainly this "third beat", its speed and the use of complex bass lines that differentiated reggae from rocksteady, although later styles incorporated these innovations separately.1968 saw the first official Reggae records; Nanny Goat" by Larry Marshall and "No More Heartaches" by The Beltones. The Wailers, a band started by Bob Marley, Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer in 1963, are perhaps the most recognised band that made the transition through all three stages of early Jamaican popular music: ska, rocksteady and reggae. Other significant reggae pioneers include prince Buster, Desmond Dekker and Jackie Mittoo.
Ska is a music genre that also came from Jamaica. However, it was developed earlier Ska combined elements of Caribbean Mento and calypso with American Jazz and R&B. It is characterized by a walking bass line accented with rhythms on the upbeat. In the early 1960s, ska was the dominant music genre of Jamaica and was popular with British Mods. Later it became popular with many skinheads, than reggae in the 1950's.
Tin Roots Photographs
I found a website where Tin Roots have uploaded photographs taken from various trips they have made and around their hometown of Brighton. These will be vital in helping me to plan the different locations and aspects of my music video. Although I will not be able to shoot in these locations, for example Brighton, I can however look to shoot in similar locations, for example Cromer Pier.

Tin Roots Bio
Tin Roots are a female fronted Ska, Reggae, Dub, Blues, Soul and Hip-Hop Influenced 6 piece band that have been performing together since June 2009.
In such very short time they managed to play at top UK festivals last year such as Secret Garden Party, Green Man, Beachbreak Live, Sunrise Festival, Nozstock, Shambala, One Love festival and Ireland’s largest festival Electric Picnic.
In the past they have supported Ninja Tune’s The Herbaliser, and this year supported Finley Quaye and Chaka Demus and Pliers at Brighton’s top venue Concorde 2.
Ruby Taylor [Vocals + Guitar]
Laurence Hammerton [Guitar + Vocals]
Will Rathbone [Saxophone + Melodica]
Andy Davies [Trombone]
Carl Swietlik [Drums]
Joe Miles [Bass]
"Tin Roots are a terrific female-fronted group that sports a crisp and distinct modern reggae/ska sound that defies easy categorization, but should definitely appeal to fans of vintage ska and roots reggae. One major element that sets Tin Roots apart is lead singer/guitarist Ruby Taylor's ethereal, yet commanding voice. It may remind one of Lily Allen's, but Taylor's is much more colorful and pure--and it's mesmerizingly gorgeous."

Set Sail Lyrics
Don’t know what I’m seeing here
When everything is so unclear
And it always gets the best of me
I can’t rest easy so I hide away
Don’t understand what anybody’s saying
That’s because I’ve not been paying
Attention of the finest
But it’s not for me
so I get behind
The moment when
I will set sail
I know the wind will follow
And I will try my hardest not to fail
This choice is my own fate
And you can play your part
For my troubles sake
Always there just like my heart
For every time that I ever sinned
I feel cold touch of the wind
Know it’s there to teach but not to preach
And I will listen to Its ways
A tingle to the skin I know it’s with me
In dark times it will keep guiding
While this life I ride is un-indentified
Exactly why I’m here
Only you know what I’m missing I
Wish I could see the sight of it
But I know it’s for the best
Because it’s a chance that I will never take
You’ll stay the same as I grow older
Always remember the things that I’ve told ya
And I will need reminding
When I’m finding nothing makes any sense to me
I’m finding nothing
Makes any sense to me (Repeat)
The moment when
I will set sail
I know the wind will follow
And I will try my hardest not to fail
When everything is so unclear
And it always gets the best of me
I can’t rest easy so I hide away
Don’t understand what anybody’s saying
That’s because I’ve not been paying
Attention of the finest
But it’s not for me

The moment when

And I will try my hardest not to fail
This choice is my own fate
And you can play your part

Always there just like my heart
For every time that I ever sinned

Know it’s there to teach but not to preach
And I will listen to Its ways
